How Often to Post on Social Media

 

Every entrepreneur knows that you have to market your business on social media.  It is essential to create engagement in your business and drive traffic to your website or other avenue to increase your customer base.  If one message is effective, what would posting 2-3 times a day or even more do for your results?  Or if you shared more of your messages over all of your social networks, that should get you even more results, right?  Before you start feeling overwhelmed, here is a handy guide to how often you should post on your various social media sites.

Facebook:  It is recommended to post at least 1 and maximum of 2 posts per day.  Anything more can start to be seen as ‘spammy’.  If you really want your community to see your post, you should re-share every other day.  In general it is most effective to post between 1 pm – 4 pm.

Twitter:  Various studies show different data on how to effectively use twitter.  The average recommendation is 15 tweets per day.  Some sites say that a minimum of 1 tweet per day and maximum of 50 tweets per day is effective.  Other sites also say that Twitter has no maximum, so just do what is best for your schedule and your industry.  Tweets can start as early as 2 am and as late as 10 pm.  Sprout found that most re-tweets happen with 1 hour of tweeting, so higher daily frequency is best.

Pinterest:  Using Pinterest is dependent on what type of business you have.  It has been proven to drive more female engagement, so if that is a market share that you are trying to increase or maintain, then Pinterest could be right for you.  An average of 11 pins per day is recommended, with 3 per day at the lower end and up to 30 per day maximum.  Marketing firm Ahalogy found the best results with 15-30 pins per day spread throughout the day.

LinkedIn:  LocalVox says that once per day should be the most you ever share to LinkedIn.  The most effective time is 10 am – 11 am.  If you have a blog or article that you want to share, this is a better platform rather than Facebook or other site that is more visually driven.

Google+:  These posts are recommended 2 times per day, with a maximum of 3 times per day.  Constant Contact says to share on Google+ a minimum of 3 times per week while 10 times per week should be your maximum.  It is most effective to post at 9 am – 11 am and 12 pm – 1 pm.

Instagram:  According to Buffer, major brands share on Instagram an average of 1.5 times per day, but not more.  It is recommended a minimum of 1 post per day and maximum of 3 times per day.  The best times to post are 8 am – 9 am, with the 2nd post at 2 am.  Curate your posts only when necessary and beneficial to your audience.

Now, I know you are not setting your alarm to post on Instagram at 2 am or Tweet at 3 am – have no fear!  There are many sites that you join to schedule your social media posting.  Services like CinchShare, ReQueue, Hootsuite, Buffer, SOCi, and many more can help you sort out your social media posting to make sure you message is cohesive and consistent.  You can truly ‘set it and forget it’ to make sure you posts are going up at the right time to get the maximum views and shares.
